FG To Sponsor Treatment Of Victims Abroad

Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, dispatched a five-man Federal Government delegation to Anambra State, to condole with government and people of the state, over last Sunday’s massacre at St. Philips Catholic Church, in Ofufe-Amakwa, Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Council Area.

The delegation is made up of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige; Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole; Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of State for Environment, Mallam Ibrahim Usman Jibril; and the Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Anwuka.

The delegation, according to Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on media and Publicity, Laolu Akande also visited Bishop Hilary Okeke of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, also in Nnewi to meet some of the victims still in the hospital.

In the letter, Osinbajo extended deep commiserations to the families, friends of the victims, and the community on the death of their sons and daughters, praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The Acting President condemned in very strong terms the atrocious and dastardly act, which, he said has brought sorrow to many innocent families and, has rightly provoked widespread condemnation.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has promised readiness to sponsor any of the victims whose case is beyond the NAUTH to handle for treatment abroad.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Anthony Igwegbe who took the delegation round the wards where the victims were receiving treatment, said six of the injured have been transferred to the Orthopedic Trauma Center of the hospital located at Oba, Idemili South Local Government of the state.
